Forget Love- I'd rather fall in Chocolate!..

Another busy month, and as the headline suggests, one filled with Chocolate Cake! Maybe there is something about the winter weather drawing in that brings us all back to this most heart warming substance?.. Alongside our ever popular Chocolate and Raspberry Sponge, we have now introduced a ridiculously delicious, moist Devils Food Cake (another version of chocolate cake to the uninitiated) to our repertoire.
We will always do our best to be able to fulfill last minute orders - so don't panic if you are late, or just plain unorganised, give us a call and we will help out if we can!

So here are some of our latest offerings..

A mighty 30 cms of Chocolate loveliness - decorated with a '50' in the Boston Redsox font (the celebrants favourite team)

The above mentioned Devils Food Cake in all its glory!

For Pete's 40th - a man who likes sailing - did you get it?!

We also need to announce our departure from Stoke Newington Farmers Market. It was fun while it lasted, but we must go onward and upward to greater things..We are now concentrating on our made-to-order cakes for your pleasure!

Commisions Ahoy!

It's been a busy few weeks of baking... We have had lots of personal orders coming in and thought we should keep you up to date on some of our latest creations...

For an october 50th birthday - A Chocolate Raspberry Sponge filled with Raspberry Buttercream, topped with Chocolate Buttercream and a homegrown organic (fully edible) Nasturtium..

A wonderfully classic summery Victoria Sponge filled with Fresh Strawberries, Vanilla Buttercream, and Strawberry Jam for Dora's 3rd birthday

This was for a 20th birthday party - A Rich Lemon Sponge, with a Lemon Glace Icing.

This selection of mini cupcakes were for the birthday of Space (EC1) - Vanilla cakes with Coconut, Lemon, Chocolate, Vanilla, and Raspberry Buttercreams.

Let's get personal!

Here are just some of the personal orders we have been working on recently..
The Star Cake was a scrumptious Chocolate Orange Sponge with a Choc Orange Buttercream filling, glazed with Dark Chocolate Ganache..a chocoholics dream!
The Football Cake was going off on a slight tangent for Cakes-a-go-go! as we were requested to use the ready made sugar footballs. Who were we to argue with a soon-to-be 5 year old?! They topped a giant 30cm (12") Vanilla Sponge filled with Fresh Seasonal Strawberries and Double Cream.
The 'G' Cake was comissioned for a birthday do at a wine tasting evening (wine and cake - What a combination, we thought!). It was a Vanilla Sponge filled with Fresh Crushed Raspberry Buttercream. And amazingly the pink Buttercream on top was coloured entirely naturally by Raspberry Juice!

The only downside for us was that we had to part ways with all of them!

Wash out summer! Let's get autumnal instead!

Since the summer holidays have started, the summer weather seems to have packed itself away! Which on the one hand has not been great with an excitable 4 year old and busy 8 month old, but on the other appears to have been great for the plants..especially the blackberries. With our newly found spare time we went for a country walk and were delighted to find a bumper crop of sweet, juicy blackberries. Of course we could not hold back in picking until our fingers were stained a wonderful deep purple and we had a number of overflowing tubs..

Back at home I got thinking as to how I could use these tasty berries. Jam, Crumble, Pie? Nope - Blackberry Cake! What better than a moist slice of Blackberry and Apple Cake with your afternoon tea I thought... So our end of August stall at the Stoke Newington Farmers Market will feature this delicious treat.

We seem to have berries on the mind at the moment, as at our stall last week we were selling Meringues-with the intention that our customers buy these and then some fresh berries from Alison's or Marina's stall and whip up an easy but super tasty dessert.. It worked for our sunday dinner anyway! They really did fly off the shelves, as they say, so we will selling them again at the end of august market.

Right, back to the kitchen...

Branching out..

We were recently asked to make an egg-free cake for a birthday for an egg-allergic child. Egg-free, we thought, would not a perfect cake make. . . But as you can see from the above picture, a perfect and delicious cake it certainly did make!
Made with real butter and sandwiched with fresh raspberries and cream , I don't think the egg was missed one bit.
So this brings us to the point - as we have previously said, we really are happy to undertake ANY order. Dietary issues not an issue! Infact our latest experiments are for a truly beautiful Lemon Drizzle Cake that is Gluten Free..

Long May It Last!

Almond Sponge with Delicate Lemon Icing

Well, our third week has just flown by in another whirlwind...once again, a very successful market! We're now getting fantastic feedback from our regular customers and new ones too. Being enthusiastic about new flavours and combinations, we introduce new and exciting cakes every week.
This week we had a Rich Chocolate Fudge Cake, An Almond Sponge with a Delicate Lemon Icing, and a Really Zingy Lemon Syrup Cake. Our new introduction of Gingerbread Men and Chocolate Gingerbread Men (without the ginger and cloves, but with cocoa and cinnamon instead) were a real hit and we were delighted to see adults indulging their inner child, as well as the real youngsters!

So Easter is just around the corner.. We'll be baking some Easter Biscuits this week to celebrate.

The Pitfield's Brewery stall was at the market this week and some bottles of delicious Shoreditch Stout and 1792 Imperial Stout were purchased with the idea of a Chocolate and Stout Cake in mind for next week's big bake...Keep an eye out for it on Saturday!

Sell - Out Success!

Chocolate Hazelnut Marble Cake

Thanks to all who made it to the market on Saturday, what a beautiful day it was! We sold out of every item going! (hence the rather sparse looking table in the picture...) The chocolate topped cupcakes seemed to be the overall winner, with packets of chocolate dipped shortbreads coming in a close second. I guess chocolate is always a winner!

I'm looking forward to this coming saturday and hoping we have a repeat of last saturday's success...

This weeks goodies will be :

Coffee and Walnut Cake

Two Tone Chocolate Cake

Carrot Cake with Citrus Cream Cheese Topping

Butter Biscuits with Belgian Chocolate

Lemon Butter Bites

and, of course, lots of lovely Cupcakes!

I'm always happy to take special orders aswell - either to collect at the following weeks market or during the week from my house in Stoke Newington.
