Wash out summer! Let's get autumnal instead!

Since the summer holidays have started, the summer weather seems to have packed itself away! Which on the one hand has not been great with an excitable 4 year old and busy 8 month old, but on the other appears to have been great for the plants..especially the blackberries. With our newly found spare time we went for a country walk and were delighted to find a bumper crop of sweet, juicy blackberries. Of course we could not hold back in picking until our fingers were stained a wonderful deep purple and we had a number of overflowing tubs..

Back at home I got thinking as to how I could use these tasty berries. Jam, Crumble, Pie? Nope - Blackberry Cake! What better than a moist slice of Blackberry and Apple Cake with your afternoon tea I thought... So our end of August stall at the Stoke Newington Farmers Market will feature this delicious treat.

We seem to have berries on the mind at the moment, as at our stall last week we were selling Meringues-with the intention that our customers buy these and then some fresh berries from Alison's or Marina's stall and whip up an easy but super tasty dessert.. It worked for our sunday dinner anyway! They really did fly off the shelves, as they say, so we will selling them again at the end of august market.

Right, back to the kitchen...

Branching out..

We were recently asked to make an egg-free cake for a birthday for an egg-allergic child. Egg-free, we thought, would not a perfect cake make. . . But as you can see from the above picture, a perfect and delicious cake it certainly did make!
Made with real butter and sandwiched with fresh raspberries and cream , I don't think the egg was missed one bit.
So this brings us to the point - as we have previously said, we really are happy to undertake ANY order. Dietary issues not an issue! Infact our latest experiments are for a truly beautiful Lemon Drizzle Cake that is Gluten Free..

Long May It Last!

Almond Sponge with Delicate Lemon Icing

Well, our third week has just flown by in another whirlwind...once again, a very successful market! We're now getting fantastic feedback from our regular customers and new ones too. Being enthusiastic about new flavours and combinations, we introduce new and exciting cakes every week.
This week we had a Rich Chocolate Fudge Cake, An Almond Sponge with a Delicate Lemon Icing, and a Really Zingy Lemon Syrup Cake. Our new introduction of Gingerbread Men and Chocolate Gingerbread Men (without the ginger and cloves, but with cocoa and cinnamon instead) were a real hit and we were delighted to see adults indulging their inner child, as well as the real youngsters!

So Easter is just around the corner.. We'll be baking some Easter Biscuits this week to celebrate.

The Pitfield's Brewery stall was at the market this week and some bottles of delicious Shoreditch Stout and 1792 Imperial Stout were purchased with the idea of a Chocolate and Stout Cake in mind for next week's big bake...Keep an eye out for it on Saturday!
